About
“Do you know the difference between an artist and a designer?
The difference between an artist and a designer is that an artist solves internal problems and a designer solves external ones.”
Paraphrased from a conversation with George Greenamyer, 01/08/2022

An artist who also builds for other artists.
Stone Studios & Services is the studio of sculptor Matthew J. Stone. Independent artwork and fabrication sit side by side: the same tools, the same hands, the same attention to a finished object.
The work moves between physical and digital. Objects get scanned and modeled, printed or carved, patterned for casting, drafted and built. Some of it becomes sculpture shown in galleries. Some of it becomes fountains, plaques and public art made for other artists and institutions.
Matthew studied sculpture in Boston, Stockholm and New York. His work is in the collections of Tauba Auerbach, Marilyn Minter and Judy Pfaff.
